Stevns Klint

Visit and experience the amazing Stevns Klint with 65 million years of natural history. Stevns Klint consist of chalk and limestone formed 65 million years ago, when the sea covered Denmark. The lower part of the cliff consist of chalk made up by microscopic algae. The chalk holds fossils from animals that lived on the seafloor – eschinoids, bivalves and many others.

Stevns Klint is both beautiful and dramatic at the same time. On a summer day, the chalk seafloor colours the sea with amazing shades of blue, and the white cliff stands proud, topped by the green crowns of the trees. The cliff is both attractive and dramatic, and it is said that the Cliff King “Klintekongen” has summer residence in one of the caves in the cliff.

Viewed from the sea, the almost 20 km. long cliff rises as a massiv promontory. You must prepare yourself for a surprise when the flat land of Stevns abruptly cut off by the 41 metre high cliff. From the top of the cliff you have an unrestricted view over the Øresund and on clear days to Sweden and the Øresund bridge.

A dramatic chapter in Earth’s history is hidden in the cliff. A fairly thin layer of Fisher tells the story of how the dinosaurs and half of all species were wiped out 66 million years ago when an asteroid hit the Earth. Stevns Klint is the best place in the world to see the dramatic layer.

It is a very interesting and amazing place, very beautiful with all the colours from the sky, the sea and the nature on land. You will walk on top of the cliff on a track where you will have a perfect view overlooking the cliff and the sea. You will also go for a walk on the beach, seeing the cliff rising from the beach. You can also try to find some fossils, it is not so impossible as you think.

Stevns Klint came on the UNESCO´s list of world heritage sites in Denmark in 2014.
