Kronborg Castle

Kronborg Castle is Northern Europe´s biggest renaissance castle and stands majestically with its spires, towers, sandstone and copper roofs.

It is known worldwide for Shakespeare´s Hamlet.

It was also home to the royal family until the end of 1600. The history goes back to the 15th century.                                                                      Grand fortifications with bastions and casemates used to protect the Danish land from unwanted visitors. Every ship passing the sound in the old days had to pay sound dues to the king to be able to pass it. The strait is so narrow that the king did not hesitate to use the menacing guns that pointed directly at the ships.

Kronborg Castle lies at the most beautiful spot with a spectaculary view overlooking the sound between Denmark and Sweden. Sweden is so close that you´ll  actually believe that it is a part of Denmark.

Kronborg Castle came on the UNESCO´s list of world heritage sites in Denmark in 2000.
