On this tour you will explore some of the most incredible nature of its kind you will ever see. The Wadden Sea is the largest unbroken system of intertidal sand and mud flats in the world.<\/p>\n
The site covers the Dutch Wadden Sea Conservation Area, the German Wadden Sea National Parks of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein and most of the Danish Wadden Sea maritime conservation area.<\/p>\n
It is a large, temperate, relatively flat coastal wetland environment, formed by the intricate interactions between physical and biological factors that have given rise to a multitude of transitional habitats with tidal channels, sandy shoals, see-grass meadows, mussel beds, sandbars, mudflats, salt marshes, estuaries, beaches and dunes.<\/p>\n
The area is home to numerous plants and animal species inclding marine mammals such as the harbour seal, grey seal and harbor porpoise. The Wadden Sea is one of the last remaining large-scale, intertidal ecosystems where natural processes continue to function largely undisturbed.<\/p>\n
Head here for unbeatable birdwatching. Every spring and fall the starlings meet to go south together for the winter or at spring they split after their journey from the south to go seperate ways for the countries around Denmark (only to meet again at fall). Just before the starlings stop for the night, the big group of birds draw fascinating patterns in the sky – it’s called black sun.<\/p>\n
Black Sun can sometimes come up to accommodate up to 1 million birds.<\/p>\n
The Wadden Sea came on the UNESCO\u00b4s list of world heritage site in Denmark in 2009.<\/p>\n
